As general contractor Expomobilia is responsible for the construction of the Norwegian pavilion in Dubai for the World Expo 2020 together with “Rintala Eggertsson Architects” from Oslo and live content specialists “Five Currents” from Los Angeles. Expomobila is committed to sustainability, offering solutions to reuse practically all construction materials.
During the construction of the ‘Stücki Park’ shopping centre in northern Basel, the so called village, a 3-storey high installation, was erected beneath other elements. Expomobilia was hired as the general contractor. We were responsible for the complete load-bearing structure in steel / wood elements as well as the walnut wood façade of the ‘Stücki Village’.
An attractive and versatile meeting place was created, boasting a modern wooden look with shopping and activity offers, restaurants, doctor & dental practices, physio practitioners and coworking spaces. Due to its refit vision, the cube-shaped building in the heart of the old shopping centre, designed by the renowned Diener & Diener architects, was an extraordinary structural engineering project even for our experienced project managers.
Expomobilia implemented the components of the ‘Stücki Village’ as described above as general contractor under the management of the total contractor S+B Baumanagement AG. Within just five months, we brought the highly complex project to completion. Stücki Park remained open throughout the entire construction phase. The tight schedule, the construction during ongoing operation and the small logistics area for the building material required flexibility and innovative thinking skills from all team members.
This project demonstrates that Expomobilia can also professionally implement any building construction projects.
We are very proud and happy about the two received awards for the Swiss Pavilion at EXPO2017 in Astana. The Golden Award has been awarded by the renowned BIE (Bureau International des Expositions) in the category "Development". The silver award was given in the "Best Presentation" category. An international jury of nine members visited each pavilion of the 115 countries and the 22 international organizations participating in Expo 2017 Astana. In four different categories, depending on the size of the participation in the country, the official participant prizes were awarded either for exhibition design or for the development of the theme "Future Energy".
Extract from the jury evaluation:
Swiss Pavilion @ EXPO2017 in Astana: The project’s theme is “Nature in Motion” and is being jointly organized by us – general contractor for temporary constructions such as pavilions and trade fair booths – and the renowned design and architecture firm Atelier Oï based in La Neuveville. The aim was to create an entertaining and interactive exhibition where visitors can test and experience their relationship with energy in intelligent and efficient ways. This intuitive creative concept will also demonstrate how each and every one of us can make a small contribution towards the creation of something huge.
The exhibition at the Swiss Pavilion was divided into four chapters and distributed across a total area of 460 m².
Expomobilia’s VIP platform concept impressed the event’s organisers with its unusual design. It involved repurposing old shipping containers to create a bar and storage area and, at the same time, to help support the platform itself. The engineers from Expomobilia carried out a structural analysis of the concept and took all the safety measures that are needed on such a busy event site.
When combined with the supporting framework, the result was an attractive urban structure that fitted in perfectly against the varied artistic backdrop of the Badenfahrt event.
Expomobilia built the structure in only two days, which allowed all the other construction work for Badenfahrt to go ahead on schedule. The members of our project team were particularly pleased by the obvious satisfaction of the organisers and the positive response from visitors. We are proud to have been commissioned to build the main VIP venue at such a prestigious event.
Halle 622 in Zurich’s Oerlikon district was built by ABB Switzerland and until 2012 served as a production facility for high voltage apparatus. Following their conversion in autumn 2016, this collection of former industrial buildings were reopened in February 2017 and run by MAAG Music & Arts AG as a multifunctional event and concert location. As General Contractor, Expomobilia was responsible for managing the entire project, including the detailed planning, feasibility studies, construction and onsite assembly.
